MULTIFUNCTION LOOP CALIBRATOR FROM PIE
May 27, 2011

Practical Instruments Introduces the PIECAL 820 Multifunction Process Calibrator
The new PIECAL 820 is smaller and easier to use than other multifunction calibrators. Six single function calibrators with advanced features are squeezed into a single surprisingly small package that fits into a pocket.
This technician friendly calibrator is all about ease of use. An intuitive EZ-DIAL Double Click Menu makes it simpler to setup than larger calibrators with their complicated button filled panels and confusing menus. Use the PIECAL 820 right out of the box instead of wasting time learning to use more complex calibrators.
The PIECAL 820 Process Calibrator combines all milliamp loop functions and sources and reads DC Volts and millivolts, 14 thermocouple types, 9 RTD curves, ohms and process frequency signals. For troubleshooting connections it has a continuity tester with tone. All ranges have auto storing MIN/MAX readings and three output set points for fast calibration of zero, midpoint and span. Advanced features include automatic detection of 2, 3 and 4 wire RTDs plus configurable automatic stepping and ramping. A LED flashes green for frequency sync and lights up red for signal overload and invalid signal conditions.
The toolbox tough design includes a backlit display for use in dark environments, protective rubber boot with built in stand, hands free carrying case and test leads.
NIST Calibration Certificate and three year warranty are included at no extra cost. Optional six year extended warranty is available for low total cost of ownership. Or choose the 3 year replacement warranty and eliminate unbudgeted expenses when the calibrator is used where equipment is regularly damaged.
The PIECAL 820 is the best value multifunction calibrator combining ease of use, accuracy, signal compatibility and compact size to make calibration as easy as pie!

Enerac Portable Gas Analyzers
May 13, 2011
The efficient operation and maintenance of combustion sources such as boilers, furnaces, turbines or engines requires a commitment to ongoing combustion analysis. If your goal is combustion efficiency to save money, collect data or report emissions to local, state and federal agencies then ENERAC has a solution that is the most reliable, accurate and sophisticated available.
ENERAC has over 30 years experience in the development and manufacture of feature rich portable gas analyzers. ENERAC has developed a new line of sensor technology called SEMS for use in the Model 700 Portable. The M700 is the only portable emission analyzer in the world that meets the EPA’s new CTM-22 specifications for NOX measurements by portable emission analyzers. You can read a brief history of the company here.
ENERAC, the leading manufacturer of portable emission and combustion analyzers in the world, has selected Combustion Technology LLC of Vancouver, WA to act as their representative and distributor in the Pacific Northwest. Combustion Technology has been a leading supplier of process heating solutions in the NW for over 25 years, and is currently involved as a supplier and partner on Green Projects, Environmental Cleanup projects and upgrades to legacy combustion control systems to improve efficiency and reduce Green House Gas emissions.

Furnace Camera Upgrades.
April 1, 2011
Lenox Instrument Company is pleased to announce improvements to our FireSight Boiler Camera product line.
Lenox Instrument high-temperature camera systems provide clear, crisp images of the combustion process in boilers, furnaces, kilns, incinerators and other combustion chambers. With the real-time image provided, operators can monitor the proper flow of fuel and raw materials, reduce emissions, reduce fuel consumption, speed up boiler light off, and improve safety. Our FireSight products include Air Cooled Firesight Systems, Water Cooled Firesight Systems and Lenox/Pultz High-Temp. Video Camera Systems.
A number of changes are being incorporated into our FireSight Boiler Camera product line that will make it smaller, safer and more effective. These changes will include:
- A smaller CCTV housing – 4 inches shorter than the original camera housing.
- Two (2) quarter turn closure locks, replacing the external clips.
- Low voltage, DC powered, CCD Camera
- DC operation for improved iris control
- Externally mounted power supply, complete with a 5 meter interconnect cord.
- Provision for Ethernet or fiber optic connectivity.

In the News
We are pleased to announce our latest representative for Verabar® and Accelabar® products: Combustion Technology
Now … There is a Difference
Developed from aerospace technology, the Verabar bullet shaped differential pressure flow sensor with dual low-pressure ports located on the sides significantly improves accuracy, rangeability and resistance to clogging. The Verabar works where other insert flow meters have failed. It accurately measures gases, liquids and steam in pipes and ducts.
Superior Signal Stability and Greater Resistance to Clogging
Clogging occurs in low-pressure ports located in or near the partial vacuum at the rear of the sensor. The Verabar design locates the low-pressure ports on the sides of the sensor, forward of the fluid separation point and turbulent wake area. This virtually eliminates clogging and produces an extremely stable signal.
Lower Drag and Extended Turndown
Golf balls fly farther because they have a dimpled surface that lowers aerodynamic drag. The grooves and roughness on the Verabar’s frontal surface apply the same principles. This simple design feature relieves the partial vacuum at the rear of the sensor, reducing the pressure drag. This extends the accuracy and range-ability to very low velocities.
In God We Trust … All Others Bring Data
The unique and exclusive breakthrough in improved accuracy is derived from a verified mathematical model to predict the Verabar flow coefficients. This eliminates the need for calibration tests to characterize the coefficients. Without such a model, the uncertainty of the flow coefficients is dramatically increased and expensive calibration may be required. Empirical test data from independent laboratories verified the theoretical model and Verabar flow coefficients as a constant, independent of Reynolds Number and within ±0.5% of the predicted value.
New from Veris Engineering – the Accelabar®
A new and unique flow meter combines two differential pressure technologies to produce operating ranges never before attainable in a single flow meter, capable of generating high differential pressures for measuring gas, liquids and steam at turn-downs tested up to 65:1 with no straight run requirements! The Accelabar has a constant flow coefficient and produces an accuracy of ±0.50% over the entire operating range – other manufacturers claim high accuracy but over a limited turn-down.
